QBE Corporate History

QBE traces its origin back to the North Queensland Insurance Company Ltd founded in Australia in 1886. Later, a number of agencies were established in the United Kingdom, Asia and the Pacific - including Malaysia in 1905, Singapore in the late 1880’s and Indonesia in the early 1900s.

In 1973, QBE Insurance Group Limited evolved from the successful merger of the Queensland Insurance Co, Ltd., Bankers and Traders Insurance Co. Ltd and the Equitable Life and General Insurance Co. Ltd.

In the years that followed, QBE embarked on a new path of growth, nationally and internationally, creating one of the greatest success stories in corporate Australia. Today, QBE Group has offices in 49 countries and the ultimate parent company is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange.
